Honours to senior, the first on this market was Olympus (and Pentax). Since their first model, they have made some improvements on the offer, leading today to Olympus u-tough (mu tough) 6010 (photo on the right).
It got all essential features that you will find in most modern cameras: 12 Mpxl lens, optical zoom 3,6x, face recognition, etc.
Another rival of Olympus is Canon, which get involved into the waterproof cameras world this year, with a unique model, Canon PowerShot D10 (Camera photo on article "when is the best time to
buy..."). The major Con of this model is that it is taking much place than others of the same category, but i'm finding its design amazing.
I will complete my list with two non-waterproof models, from my favorite cameras manufacturer, Sony. It was one of the first to provide touch interfaces on its cameras. One good example of this technology is the Sony DSC-T77, with a beautiful finish. You could get one model for $300.
Another interesting model is Sony DSC-H20 (on the right), which is mid-bridge, mid-compact, with HD capability and fantastic zoom. Available at $258.99 on Sony online store.
